Peter and family of Just Jags here in Sydney kindly invited
members of the Jaguar Drivers Club of Australia to his premises
for an inspection of his Broadspeed Racer BEL JC 004. Peter
purchased the coupe in early 1997 when it was offered for
auction by the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust through Brooks
Auction house. It has resided in Sydney since and we were first
able to inspect the car at Peter's workshop in August 1997.
In 1997 and 1998, Peter displayed the Broadspeed at the clubs
annual Concours and Display Day. It was, and always has been a
very popular attraction.
"BEL JC 004 is a
5.3-litre Group 2 European Touring Car Championship Competition
Coupe. At the time of auction in 1997, it was one of two 1977
works cars complete. The engine was dry-sumped and driven by Tim
Schenken. Before auction, it was stored for many years, in
running but not race-ready condition."
Surprisingly, the coupe still has a wood dash and some chrome trim
items
that I thought would have been removed from such a powerful race
car.
The car has been sold and will return to the UK very soon. Peter
graciously allowed access to the car before it leaves, and I was
lucky enough to sit in it for a photo, and also to get some
photos of my XJC alongside this awesome car.
Peter also put on a sausage sizzle and refreshments - thanks
very much for an enjoyable afternoon.
